This series will consist of: February 26 The Christ Life March 4 Maxed Out March 11 For Crying Out Loud March 18 The Meek March 25 Hunger and Thirst April 1 Boomerang (Is this an April fool) April 8 Raising The Dead (Easter) April 15 Pure in Heart April 22 Peace and Quiet April 29 Family Renunion May 6 Bright Salt Shacker February 26 The Christ Life For some time now we have declared that the reason we exist, and the reason we gather together is . . . TO LEAD PEOPLE TO A CHRIST LIKE LIFE. There are some assumptions we make in this statement. •For one, people can live a Christ like life. •Secondly, that we are committed to making that happen in our lives and in the lives who have yet to meet the Savior. March 4 Maxed Out “Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, & He began to teach them, saying: Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. There is a Kingdom that is waiting for you. You can be part of this Kingdom. There is room for you! The King of this Kingdom has declared that those who are poor in spirit may enter. There is a Kingdom whose principles and values are vastly different than the values and principles of our present world. There is room for you in this Kingdom. March 11 For Crying Out Loud “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4 For crying out loud. Blessed, for crying - - - - come on - - -no way!! But that is what Jesus said! Come to think of it – there is no place in Scripture where we see Jesus laughing. But there are places where He cried. March 18 The Meek “Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5 In the first century A.D. the Jews had huge expectations. They had been waiting for hundreds of years for a Messiah – a Savior - - someone who would make things right. Someone who would enable them to be free, powerful and in control - - After all, it was their rightful place as God’s people. March 25 Hunger and Thirst “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6 There is a Kingdom open to you whose values and principles are vastly different from our world. And this Kingdom has a King – He is the one who has established these values and principles. He has determined the way inhabitants of His community are to live. In order to be a part of this kingdom one must be maxed out, totally destitute, bankrupt. Not financially but spiritually. This comes as we see ourselves as we really are totally dependent upon God. This Kingdom is only open to those who are maxed out. April 1 Boomerang (Is this an April's fool joke?) “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” Micah 6:8 . . . He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy And to walk humbly with your God. What we are going to discover about mercy is that what goes around should come around. Mercy is like a boomerang – which when thrown properly will go out and then come back again. God has started this boomerang effect by demonstrating to us His great mercy – which in turn – is something we can give to others. April 8 Raising The Dead (Easter) •Does God have the power to raise the dead to life? •Can God bring back to life a person who has been left for dead? •Does God have the power to give life to an empty shell? And maybe even more importantly, Does God ever show up in the lives of ordinary people? Maybe this Easter you need a resurrection? April 15 Pure in Heart Today, we are going to look at what Jesus had to say about the heart. He is calling those who follow Him and desire to be a part of His Kingdom to have a pure heart. Yet, we live in a day where because of what we see around us and in us that many have concluded that it is impossible to have a pure heart. Therefore, is it possible to have heart of Jesus within us? April 22 Peace and Quiet “Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the sons of God.” Matthew 5:9 Have you ever wanted a little peace & quiet? Just a few minutes from the hectic pace . . . No phone calls. No knocks on the office door. No screaming children - - no husband to pick up after. No blaring TV - - - All you wanted was some peace and quiet. Jesus was telling stories – parables - - they were called in his - - stories that conveyed a deeper meaning or purpose or truth. April 29 Family Renunion Join us for a meal and family time together. There will be reports from all department heads about last year accomplishments and a look ahead. Elections will take place too. May 6 Bright Salt Shacker Jesus now considers how He will communicate this good news to all people. He reveals His strategy in Matthew 5:13-16. "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. We exist as a Church to: “Lead People To A Christ Like Life” and as such carry the same responsibility as those early followers of Jesus – To Be Salt And Light in the World in which we live. |
